Put your best foot forward by looking presentable. This doesn’t mean wearing layers of makeup or spending your pay cheque on new clothes; it means arriving well rested and polished to every round of recruitment.
If you have any questions about the ‘dress code’ of each round, please ask your RC! She is happy to answer any questions for you.
Try to make friends and feel connections. Your time at each sorority will fly by but you cannot expect to find a home if you sit back and let them do the work. Make the effort to get to know the women!
Avoid talking about touchy subjects such as religion, politics, partying, or anything that could make anyone uncomfortable.
Keep your opinions to yourself and do not allow yourself to be influenced by others. Joining a sorority is a personal decision and you should not let others’ words or rumors change your opinion of any sorority.
Read the conversation tips for each round and stay informed!
Use your Formal Recruitment Handbook to help you keep your thoughts and feelings organized during recruitment. This handbook should help you reflect on your values and the things that are important to you.
If you do not get invited back to your top selections, do not be disappointed. Be open-minded and stick it out ‘til the end! You might meet an incredible woman from a chapter and do not want to miss out on this opportunity.
There is no “best” or “worst” chapter. Each chapter does the same activities (sports, formals, etc.) and has its own strengths and weaknesses. Most importantly, the women in each chapter have found a home in it and there is a home waiting for you in UBC Sororities!
Bring must-have items such as mints, lip-gloss, deodorant, hand sanitizer and oil-blotting sheets to name a few. Do not wear strong perfume, as it will be very crowded with so many girls in the same room!
Do not bring a huge bag! We recommend using a small cross body purse that you can keep your essentials in.
The rooms can get quite hot so it’s best not to wear clothing that is too warm.
Don’t take your phone out during a round!
Organize your time well during recruitment. As these are long days, make sure you are on top of your schoolwork and don’t let it all pile up. We all came to UBC to get a degree so make sure that you prioritize your work as well!
