History

Panhellenic Creed

We, as Undergraduate Members of women’s fraternities, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities.

We, as Fraternity Women, stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.

Panhellenic History

The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) consists of twenty-six sororities, and is the premier advocacy and support organization for its members, member groups, college and alumnae panhellenics and a proponent of sorority membership.

The National Panhellenic Conference, founded in 1902, is an umbrella organization for 26 inter/national sororities. Each member group is autonomous as a social, Greek-letter society of university women and alumnae. Members are represented on over 650 college and university campuses in the United States and Canada and in over 4,500 alumnae associations, making up over 4.1 million sorority women in the world. More information about NPC can be found at http://www.npcwomen.org.

Sororities came to UBC early in our university’s existence. Many started as local groups in the mid-1920s, but all became part of pre-established international organizations.
